Reclamation of the construction site for the Complex "Oceanarium"
The Aquarium and Mixed-use Edutainment Complex "Oceanarium" (Poseidon Park), is going to be situated on the reserved area of Pobedy Park (Poklonnaya Gora). It will occupy the territory of 4 hectares in the south-eastern part of the park. A large scope of work has been done to reclaim the construction site for Stage1. Before the work started the area had been filled with construction waste and garbage. The filling began in 1950s and went on while the Memorial Complex "Poklonnaya Gora" was being constructed. In general the filled soil has acceptable pollution class but some horizons are moderately dangerous as they contain gas-generating dumped soil.
The dumped soil is to be removed completely to eliminate soil vapor risk and this has been the main subject of land fill reclamation since 2003.
At the moment we have completed the sheathing of the foundation area by the diaphragm wall and solid-cast concrete piles. 80% of the dumped soil has already been removed (400, 000m³). But first of all we have transferred the engineering services – water pipes, sewerage, gas pipes, drainage system, communication lines and street lightning. The main construction work of Stage 1 started in 2007. It includes Aquarium, an underground car park and an entrance zone. It is planned to be put into operation in 2009. At the same time we continue to reclaim the land fill within the boundaries of Stage 2 of the Complex that are technologically connected. We are planning to finish the land fill reclamation when the construction of the underground part of the Complex "Oceanarium" has been finished in 2010.
