Aquarium
The gem of the Moscow Ocean Park complex will undoubtedly be the aquarium.
Even the simplest description of the aquarium includes important superlatives:
- The largest Ocean Tank display in all of Europe (almost 10 million litres of seawater),
- the deepest Ocean Tank in all of Europe (12.6 m deep)
- the largest aquarium in Russia, CIS and Eastern Europe.
The total quantity of water in the aquarium will be over 11 million liters, with displays featuring inhabitants and environments representing the oceans, seas and rivers of the world.
Natural habitats will be carefully recreated and living conditions simulated in the aquarium so that visitors will see all of the animals in real and lifelike surroundings.
The displays will include both marine and freshwater creatures and will include a large artificial coral reef where a wide range of species of sea flora and fauna will live and be allowed to develop naturally.
Passing through acrylic tunnels in the bottom of the ocean tank, visitors will be shown a true underwater world unlike anything they will ever have experienced before.
Our guests will be treated to a tourist's journey that takes them across different climatic zones and they will find themselves moving between backgrounds of a submerged rainforest, a shipwreck, a vivid coral reef and fascinating examples of temperate and tropical seas and oceans.
In addition to the many fish from around the world, there will be exhibits showing the Caspian and Black Seas and also a Lake Baikal display so that Russia's many indigenous are fully represented. One of the interesting exhibits of the aquarium will be a large "touch pool" zone, where visitors will have an opportunity to take a closer look at animals and even given a chance to handle some of them.
The aquarium has been carefully researched and planned as a true "edutainment" facility and will balance fascinating and interesting displays with some important ecological and environmental messages and displays. Apart from the basic school visits program, special courses, an artistic school and an ichthyologic study group will be organized especially for children and teenagers.
About 4 million people are expected to visit the aquarium in the first years of its operation and it is forecast to receive up to 2 million people annually in the future.
